PARALYSIS
When nerves associated with muscles, motor neurons, are affected and muscles are no longer able to move, one experiences paralysis. This malfunction can be caused by various forms of injury and disease, unexpectedly or gradually. Examples of this are spinal cord injury, stroke, trauma, head injury, and arterial blockage, among others. Injuries which cause sudden paralysis are usually car or motorcycle accidents, sudden falls, and sports injuries. Gradual paralysis results from tumors in the brain, cerebral palsy, polio, diabetes, nerve entrapment, and sleep disorders, among others. Symptoms of paralysis are numbness, muscle weakness, burning, collapse, and partial paralysis in one or more parts of the body. Treatment for paralysis varies depending on the form or case. Some cases get better while other worsen over time. There is no cure or treatment known for paralysis, but relaxation techniques, physical therapy, and certain medically prescribed drugs can be taken to alleviate certain symptoms of paralysis or to help those muscles in the body that have not been paralyzed.
